HERE is the initial 26-man Uruguay squad which has been selected for World Cup 2018 in Russia.

The two-time World Cup winners will not be among the favourites next month, but they have plenty of tournament pedigree.

Oscar Tabarez, the man who led them to the 2010 World Cup semi-finals and 2011 Copa America glory, is still at the helm – and veterans of those successes include superstar trio Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Godin.

“Gaston Ramirez, Cristhian Stuani and Guillermo Varela are among the former Premier League players in the squad”

A few former Premier League stars are also in the squad, such as Gaston Ramirez, Cristhian Stuani and Guillermo Varela.

La Celeste went out in the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup, and fell at the group stage in the 2016 Copa America Centenario, but a draw which pits them against Russia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will provide hope of a better run this time.
